Véloroute Des Draveurs Rest Area Upgradings

Category : Parks and Recreation   |   Location : MRC Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, Québec

The MRC Vallée de-la-Gatineau retained the professional services of the firm « Denis Massie, architecte paysagiste inc. » in 2022 to proceed with the necessary site inventories and analysis including the review of a previous project study prepared by NOVA and BC2 in regard to goals, objectives and overall site development strategies. Detailed design concepts were formulated including construction drawings for tender call and construction purposes.

During the design process, special attention was taken to achieve authenticity in the style of site furniture in harmony with its rural and natural context. Local materials and labour were preferred over distant resources and products. Sustainability was addressed in the choice of durable and long-lasting products, thus minimizing long term maintenance requirements.

A “post and beam” style structure was designed to provide shelter to site users at various rest areas located along the recreational pathway. The architectural style of the structure is reminiscent of the local barns and utility buildings found in the nearby countryside.

Site furniture items such as the bike racks and protection fences were built from peeled logs to blend with local log fences found in the countryside.

Local till stone material was incorporated within the site works to help blend new site works to existing stone and log fences found in the vicinity.
